Unlike probiotics, which contain live organisms, prebiotics are specialised plant fibres that act as food for our gut microbiome. Prebiotics are found in many fruits and vegetables, especially those that contain complex carbohydrates, such as fibre and resistant starch. These carbohydrates are not digestible by the body, and are therefore able to pass through the stomach and make their way to the large intestines virtually intact, where they are then consumed by our good gut bugs. This process allows for the production of short-chain fatty acids that then nourish the cells lining the colon allowing for optimal gut function and a host of health benefits associated with this.

Our Sally-Ann Creed® Maxi Prebiotic (MaxiFos) is made from chicory root, also known as inulin. Inulin has a pleasant flavour with a mild sweetness with the benefit of no added sugar. It can be sprinkles over food, or added to hot or cold beverages. It also has a very low glycemic index, making it safe for those with diabetes or monitoring their blood glucose levels.

Dosage and directions for use:
To minimise the risk of gastrointestinal discomfort, it is advisable to begin with a lower dose during the first week, allowing the body to gradually adapt.
Take 1 – 5 teaspoons a day, at any time or as directed by your healthcare professional.
