Debunking the myth of saturated fats

The Saturated Fat Myth (and cholesterol)

Together with the sugar myth (that it’s not fattening), the calorie myth (that eating less calories causes weight loss), the cholesterol myth, the pH myth and dozens of others, comes the saturated fat myth.

We’ve been lied to for 5 decades, and it’s time we realized that saturated fat is not bad for us, but in fact very good for us! It has never been shown by a SINGLE study, that saturated fat is linked to or causes heart disease – imagine that? All this time you thought it was the culprit, when in fact it’s the seed oils and a high carb diet. And by the way, fat doesn’t make you fat, sugar and carbohydrates do, just saying.

In 1958 Ancel Keys, falsified ‘studies’ show a ‘correlation’ existed between fat and heart disease, but we all know that “correlation doesn’t equal causation”!! Fortunately we now know from hundreds of studies that saturated fat is not and never was, the cause of heart disease. 21 very recent studies on nearly 350,000 people showed this, and debunked the long-held lies we were told. For the record, the original studies which were meant to scare us all into eating margarine and sunflower oil, were done on rabbits, whose diet does not include cholesterol-containing foods. We have a very different metabolism and digestive system to rabbits, I’m sure you will agree. We are humans, not rabbits.

In fact eating dietary cholesterol only raises blood levels by 1-2% maximum – it’s inconsequential to say the least – and it’s not ‘bad’ to have raised cholesterol! Saturated fat does also raise the heart-healthy HDL cholesterol while lowering another heart disease marker – Lipoprotein (a). Without cholesterol you will die, plain and simple. So why you would want to lower something so vital to life is a mystery – but I know, we’ve been brainwashed. Our bodies jump through all sorts of hoops to ensure we manufacture enough cholesterol to keep us healthy.

Saturated fats contain lauric and stearic acids which actually help to regulate cholesterol levels, while caprylic acid found in MCT oil and coconut oil has potent antiviral and antibacterial properties providing immune modulation. Saturated fats ‘insulate’ our nervous system, and help control stress. Who knew? It provides building blocks for cell membranes, hormones and acts as a carrier for the vital fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E & K.

Saturated fat then is essential not arbitrary to health. It normalizes blood sugar and insulin levels, provides satiety, mental clarity, energy, cognition and – guess what – weight control! Yes, saturated fat will NOT make you fat – but seed oils and margarine WILL.

Foods you’ll find these delicious fats include:

  • MCT Oil (see my website for a beautiful organic one)
  • Coconut oil
  • Butter
  • Ghee
  • Full-fat dairy foods, cream, cheese etc
  • Lamb and beef fat, chicken skin
  • Lard, tallow
  • Duck fat
  • Any animal fat

It’s not cholesterol which causes heart disease – it’s INFLAMMATION, which is caused by:

  • Poor diet
  • Sugar
  • High carb diets
  • Trans fats
  • Seed oils and margarines
  • Gluten and wheat products

So eat your deeeelicious saturated fats and savour them, they are doing you good!
