About the Active Ingredient(s):
Titanium Dioxide & Zinc Oxide:
Titanium Dioxide has a heavier texture and sits on the skin’s surface and reflects harmful UV rays. It protects against UVB rays, while Zinc Oxide offers protection against most of the UVA spectrum as well as UVB rays. Mineral sunscreens provide immediate protection upon application, and there is no need to wait before sun exposure.
Hyaluronic Acid:
Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring sugar molecule found in our connective tissue throughout our bodies. It is able to hold up to 1000 times its weight in water, and in our skin it is responsible for joining collagen and water molecules together to keep the skin hydrated – giving it its plump, glowing complexion.
As we age, we know our natural collagen production decreases, but so too do our hyaluronic acid levels. Further to this, external factors such as air pollution, sun exposure and poor dietary choices further contribute to their decrease.
The decreased levels of hyaluronic acid in the skin leads to skin dehydration, resulting in less plump, dull looking skin along with more visible signs of wrinkles and fine lines. Beyond this, dehydrated skin means that the skin barrier is compromised and this can lead to conditions such as atopic dermatitis, rosacea and acne.
When applied topically, hyaluronic acid penetrates the skin easily and is able to quickly boost depleted stores. Due to its unbelievable ability to draw in and retain moisture, it attracts water molecules to increase the overall moisture content of the skin, rehydrating it and providing it with a dewy, plump glow. It is great for all skin types, and is generally deemed a non-irritant ingredient that can even be applied under the eyes.
Pure Hydrolysed Collagen:
Collagen is one of the most abundant proteins in the human body and is a major component of our skin, providing it with its structural framework. As we age our natural collagen production decreases, and in the skin, this leads to signs of premature ageing – wrinkles, fine lines and sagging skin.
When taking collagen orally as many of our customers do, the collagen does a wonderful job of plumping up and reviving the dermis (our middle layer of skin) but the collagen is not able to pass through to the stratum-corneum (our outer most layer of skin), which needs extra protection from our harsh environment. Our topical Collagen Moisturiser now does just that.
Collagen molecules are too large to be absorbed by the skin. However, these molecules still play an extremely important role in the skins’ protection. Collagen molecules are highly hygroscopic, meaning they have tremendous water binding capacity making them an amazing humectant and moisturiser. The molecules are able to form a moisture-rich film that is wonderful for the upper skin layer (the stratum-corneum). This film allows for instant hydration and gives the skin a smooth feel, while reducing epidermal-water loss, which is when water evaporates out of the uppermost layer of the skin. Not only does it moisturise the skin, but it has inherent radical-capturing properties and thus is an effective antioxidant. It also improves the barrier function of the skin and preserves a neutral skin pH.
By combining hyaluronic acid with collagen, we are able to reap the benefits of both of these active ingredients. Collagen provides a nutrient and moisture rich layer on the outermost skin layer, while hyaluronic acid is able to transport this into the deeper layers of the skin.
You now have the ability to protect your skin from both the inside and the outside, with this wonderful collagen moisturiser!
Neroli:
An essential oil, extracted from the flowers of the bitter orange trees, neroli is also sometimes referred to as orange blossom oil. The oil is known for its rich, floral scent and has a slight citrus undertone. It is often used to fragrance perfumes and other cosmetic products, but did you know that it comes with a number of aromatherapy properties too. When applied to the skin, neroli has been reported to possess natural antioxidant, antimicrobial, antifungal and antiseptic properties, which can assist with alleviating skin irritations and acne, while preventing premature ageing due to oxidative stress. Neoli has also been shown to have a calming effect, assisting with conditions such as anxiety, depression and high blood pressure. A small study done on postmenopausal women found that inhaling neroli oil may assist with menopausal symptoms too, particularly high blood pressure, low libido and elevated stress.
