Cayenne peppers are closely related to jalapeños and bell peppers, and come from the Capsicum family. They are mostly used in savoury dishes to enhance the flavouring in Mexican and Cajun cuisine. Beyond its cooking uses, cayenne pepper has shown medicinal benefits and has been used for many years in traditional Chinese and Ayurvedic medicine. The pepper is said to assist with circulatory issues, and is a great source of antioxidants, such as Vitamin C, Vitamin E, beta-carotene, and cryptoxanthin (which is a source of Vitamin A).  As a topical ingredient in the form of a muscle or joint rub, it can also assist in alleviating minor aches and pains.
