Low Blood Sugar

When the liver is unable to compensate adequately for low blood sugar, the adrenal glands spring to the rescue by producing cortisol, your stress hormone.

Whenever the body is stressed and cortisol is elevated, your body is ‘told’ there is a problem (ie. Illness or injury) and needs to slow down in order for it to recover. This means T4 from the thyroid will be converted into ‘reverse T3’ instead of T3 – which is a way of putting the brakes on your metabolic rate.

This also means your liver produces way less glycogen and so the vicious cycle continues. This is why some people really battle to lose weight. Balancing blood sugar levels with a sensible low carb eating plan goes a long way to break this cycle.
