Rich in many nutrients, star anise is an amazing fruit derived from the Chinese evergreen tree, Illicium verum. With a similar flavour to licorice, star anise is often used for its distinct taste but also has a number of medicinal benefits too. Star anise has been shown to be a major source of the following bio-active compounds, linalool, quercetin, anethole, shikimic acid, gallic acid and limonene. Each of these compounds are highly beneficial to our health, and together they give this spice it’s amazing, natural antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial properties.
